The release on PC took place on November 21 2013.  On the Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 15 2013 and November 22 2013 respectively 6.  The creation of the game involved another group of developers inside Ubisoft Montreal not involved in the development of Assassin's Creed III;  as the head of the company Yves Guilmo explained due to the fact that different teams work simultaneously on different parts of the series each has several years to implement his version of Assassin's Creed.

The game is a continuation of Assassin's Creed III where the main character is the analyst Abstergo who studies the genetic memory of Desmond Miles 8.  In the historical period the protagonist is Edward Kenway the father of Haytem Kenway and Grandpa Connor of Assassin's Creed III;  the action of the new game unfolds in the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean Sea on several islands including Jamaica Cuba and the Bahamas 9.

The project came out under the slogan "A new era.  A new assassin. New rules". According to Willow Guilmo the game Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag for the fiscal year 2013 was sold by a quantity of 11 million copies.

On March 4 2013 the first detailed information about the game appeared on the Internet presented by Ubisoft at a closed presentation held on February 27 11.  It became known that the new part will feature a completely open world consisting of 50 key locations including large cities small settlements Mayan ruins sugar plantations jungles coves ports and caves.  The game places great emphasis on naval battles as well as various classes of ships appeared in it.  Players have their own ship called Galka which can be modified setting various improvements on it.
